Appenzeller Spitzhauben Chickens

The Appenzeller Spitzhauben is a rare Swiss heritage breed known for its active,

curious, and independent personality. Originally developed in the mountains of

Switzerland, these birds thrive in free-range environments where they have

plenty of room to forage and explore. Appenzeller Spitzhaubens are agile

climbers and strong fliers that often prefer roosting in trees, making them best

suited for spacious outdoor setups.

While some can be a bit flighty, they are generally non-aggressive and roosters

are known to be protective of their hens. Their small combs make them

especially cold-hardy and resistant to frostbite, though they also adapt well to

warmer climates.
